BitFire Server Basic Setup

The BitFire SLED (Simple Link Evaluation Device) is a small, portable computer used to test a network's actual bandwidth.

BitFire T4 or NUC Server Setup:

  1. Connect your chosen network to the BitFire server via the NET1 port on the back of the unit.
  1. Connect the provided IEC power cord to the power port on the back side of the server.
  1. Press the power button on the front side of the server to turn the unit on. The fans in the server and a NET1 indicator light will turn on (the server may take approximately 3 - 5 minutes to come online).
    • If the NET1 indicator light does not turn on, or you believe you are experiencing a network issue, please contact the BitFire NOC at 877-356-3232 (Option #1) with your Server (Engine) ID ready
  1. Plug your SDI cable(s) into the ports labeled "A," "B," "C" and "D" on the back of the server.
    • All ports are able to act as either a transmit or receive based on your needs and wiring
    • All port addresses in our booking system default to [serverID] [port] but can be customized as needed.
  1. Each port automatically generates a custom slate with information related to the server connectivity status and a port identifier. This slate can be referenced to troubleshoot or confirm the status of your unit on the BitFire network.
  2. The BitFire slate will contain the following information:
    • BitFire Network - Confirms connection to the BitFire Network/Inferno platform
      • If NET1 (Internet) is connected while BitFire Network is disconnected there may be a firewall in place
    • Global Clock - Confirms NTP clock synchronization
    • NET 1/2/Other NICs - Internet connection status; will display the IP address (for private IPs) as well as the protocol of a DHCP server or static configuration
      • If your network requires a static configuration, please contact our NOC for instructions.
    • DNS - IP of server that responded to DNS request for BitFire/Inferno
    • UDP - Will display within 15-20 seconds of real/current time
